Texas Longhorns
At the University of Texas, free soft drinks for employees have disappeared. Printers often sit silently, and thermostats register temperatures on the fringe of the comfort zone. However, these cost-cutting measures signal just the tip of the iceberg. Although Longhorn athletic officials won’t admit it, Orangeblood fan support may have reached ...

Your an idiot... plain and simple. There is a reason Texas has been one of the few D1 athletic programs to operate in the black., cutting costs in a tight economy is just one of those reasons. Your article smacks more of the wishful thinking of a Baylor fan than it does of fact. "If this" and "If that".... please!

Horn,

I disagree my column smacks of wishful thinking. I think we are looking at the same situation with differing viewpoints.

I tried to make the point if Texas, the nation's top revenue program, has to resort to penny-pinching methods, then every athletic department faces hard times.

As for my Baylor Bears, I expect they continually struggle. I harbor doubts about their survival in the Big 12 and Division I athletics.

I appreciate your candor. Comments like yours keep me on my toes.

John - You conveniently left out of your article a couple of very salient facts:

1) Texas currently has a 53 game home SELLOUT streak at DKR, the most impressive attendance streak this side of Lincoln, Nebraska. Included in that streak are sellouts against cupcakes like Louisiana Lafayette, Sam Houston State, and Baylor. So theorizing that the schedule this year could result in a 5,000 decrease in average attendance is, to be kind, veery ignorant. Attendance won't drop by 5, much less 5,000.

2) The Unviersity of Texas actually voted AGAINST eliminating football media guides, but got out-voted by the rest of the Big 12. So using the elimination of the MG as evidence that Texas needs to cut corners is COMPLETELY misleading.
