Minnesota Vikings
When the Minnesota Vikings selected Adrian Peterson with the No. 7 overall pick in April's draft, not only did they get whom many believe to be the best offensive player in the draft but also a franchise-type running back who should become a premier player in the NFL. The organization also set itself up to have one of its better backfield duos in...

Thats all great but the problem on offense last year was everything except the running game. No matter how good Peterson is I dont see how things are going to turn out all that different from last year on offense.

There are two good things about articles indicating that the Vikings potentially will be great in 2007. First, there is a reasonable probability that they are true. Second, there is a reasonable probability that no one with believe them to be true, thus allowing the team to fly under the radar and take the league by surprise. The fun thing about the future is that it sneaks up on us. Many still presume that because Tarvaris Jackson wasn't ready last season, he won't be ready this season. (If such reasoning were valid, Brett Favre's career would have ended in Atlanta in 1991.) Others presume that because Tom Brady once picked apart Mike Tomlin's defense in 2006, people can also pick apart Leslie Frazier's in 2007. As the old Gershwin picnic song goes: "it ain't necessarily so." Maybe Porgy and Bess' Frazier is a shyster lawyer, and some may feel I'm just Sportin' Life, selling cocaine, but "those words that you're liable to read in the Bible..."

Tom,

The running game was good last year despite only having 1 true workhorse/star (Taylor). When he was in the backfield, it was probably 70-30 that he was going to get the ball.
Now, With AP and/or CT in the backfield, with TJack having another year learning the offense, and some decent WR's, it may be more like 50-50 run/pass, and with both in the backfield on certain plays, which one will get it? With the anemic passing offense last year (no WR threats), TJack didn't stand a chance, especially with CT running on fumes. Now, AP gives us plenty of offense, since even if he's a decoy, 1-2 defensive players must key on him every play (i.e. Robert Smith or Randy Moss). I'm not saying Super Bowl this year, but if we can get to 8-8 or 9-7 without too many bone-head penalties and mistakes, win the games we SHOULD win, and play competitively in the losses, then there's plenty of reasons to think playoffs & SB in 2008-9
