When defensive end Chris Long and offensive guard Branden Albert were both among the first 15 names called at this year’s NFL draft, it was far from a surprise. Noone can honestly argue that there isn't a marked difference between UVA and VT in terms of the speed and athleticism of their skill players, especially in the defensive secondary. Both programs are what they are, and those numbers (especially hokies drafted) tell a story. But consider for a moment the blank spots of that story.

Ahmad Brooks. Michael Johnson. Kai Parham. Daryl Blackstock. Chris Canty. Freak athletes from the University of Virginia that never met their potential-- or weren't coached up properly-- for one reason or another, but freak athletes nonetheless. Brooks, a linebacker, returned kicks when he wasn't running down ballcarriers. Such a thing isn't done with athletes who are nothing less than special. Vic Hall (former QB, now DB for the Cavs) may have something to say about this as well.

Also, do you really think the Bucks are, top to bottom, a slow program, or was implicating their membership in the Big 10 without expressily saying they were slow a rhetorical trapdoor for tight conversations? Did Chris Well's touchdown scamper against the Tigers in the title game happen in a vaccum or did he run by SEC caliber athletes on his way to the endzone? Is Vernon Gholston wearing New York Jets green because of his personality? Did Ted Ginn Jr. not suit up for them the past few years?

You've made solid points in this article, and the overall premise is clear and true. But there are still a few more points to be made here.
