Virginia Tech Hokies
How much will what has become known, in shorthand, as "the Virginia Tech massacre" affect Frank Beamer's football team this fall? Probably not as much as the media would have you believe. We can only hope that the sportswriters and sportscasters get it all out of their system on Sept. 1, when Tech hosts East Carolina at Lane Stadium. ESPN Game...

I as a Hokie appreciate all the support that has been give to the University since the shootings. I am an avid fan and travel 4 hours each way to attend all the home football games. I truly enjoy watching our team play. I have followed them since I was in college in the mid 70s when they would lose to the likes of Richmond and William & Mary. I feel like the media is making Va Tech darling of football it is not something Tech asked for. We appreciate game day being there for the ECU game, but admit there are much better games to cover. I hope for a winning season and hopefully an ACC championship (which is not a given) in the mind of any Hokie I know. The football team will help the university heal, but I do not feel like VT is asking for an additional attention because of the incident in April.

East Carolina will only make this a better game. That team is scary... Va Tech is nothing more than a over hyped media darling (not due to play on the field, but off the field). I'm a Tennessee fan, but I would rather watch the ECU vs. VT game because it will be ECU's time to shine.

I agree with this article. The Tennessee/Cal game will be a great game and should get the Gameday coverage. I hope Vtech doesn't become "the team" because of the shootings.
