Fargas parlays breakout season into new deal with Raiders

Thursday, February 14, 2008 | Posted by Chris Cluff

The Oakland Raiders have re-signed running back Justin Fargas to a deal reportedly worth $12 million over three years, including $6 million in guaranteed money.

Commentary: Fargas came out of nowhere last season to turn into the Raiders' top runner --- ahead of free-agent signees Lamont Jordan and Dominic Rhodes. Fargas, who had run for just 1,016 yards in his first four years, tallied 1,009 yards last season. He averaged 4.5 yards per carry and averaged nearly 100 yards per game after taking over as the starter in Week 9. Fargas would have become a free agent on Feb. 29.

Fantasy Football Impact: This signals that the Raiders intend to retain Fargas as their starter, and it spells trouble for Jordan, who signed a five-year, $27.5 million deal in 2005.

Right on PAUL!!! I agree w/ you 100%.A perfect example of this all the so called "Al picks"(i.e. Buchanon, Dudley, etc.) that end up playing for Gruden when they leave the Raiders.

My post would have been just like Paul's. he said it right on the money! Raidernation time to start thinking outside the box! do you all remember big Al offering a position to Mike Mayock the College talent guru that comes on ESPN with Mel Kiper, this guy knows his stuff and he said no teams should touch Mcfadden until the 25th pick of the 1st rd. The guy is green, just like Peterson is Minnesota. We need DT's and DE's and this year the first 10 picks have 6 candidates that can fill that position period. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX RAIDERNATION!

OK here is how it goes ...
Raiders want Sedrick Ellis DT from USC but at 3 or 4 that is considered to high of a pick ... So there is McFadden at thier pick, they could grab him and trtade him to a team that really wants him, the Cowboys. Dallas has 2 1st round pick and could trade up probably with NE or the Jets to get the #6 or #7 pick ... yhen theu trade that pick to us along with thier 2nd round pick and #1 next year to get their franchise RB (the Arkansa boy Jerry Jones covets), We can still get Ellis or Bholston fromOhio State who would be a LB/DE. we could use the extra picks

Hey Pete, when has anything ever made sense regarding our beloved RAIDERS? I guess that's why WE ARE ALL RAIDERS, and love them no matter what! Just Win Baby.

Fargas is a good get. He runs hard, doesn't run his mouth, and is a fine pass blocker. If Al didn't re-sign him someone in the division probably would, and the price isn't real high, relatively speaking. They still need to identify another halfback. Bush hasn't taken a snap, and Jordan isn't worth the money, so it might be Rhodes. It may be tough for Al to pass on someone like McFadden, but they have invested a lot in Russell and need to surround him with proven guys like Fargas.

just tought of ways on how to make our team better, and im gonna need ur opnion on it. so here it is...
starting with offesne, we need a LT and some WRs. i say we either go after max starks(steelers) or another LT that can protect our million dolla QB. next, we need receivers, and i mean fast receviers. how about we look for ways to get roy williams, but if that is not possible, then we show definetly bring berrian over, and andre davis in kick returns as will, and we wouldnt have to waist our time with carr, cause he is not worth it. and maybe draft another receiver in the draft, we need to trade some one for a 3rd round pick....
now lets move on to defense. there is alot of wholes there. DT, DE, LB, CB, SS. unless we could find a great DT in free agency then we should go after mcfadden in the draft, and bring pat sims in the second. other wise draft dorsey or ellis, but i perfer elis, cause he seems not only a run stopper but as well as a pass rusher. and dorsey is only a run stopper, he might pressre the QB at times, but noy always. i still think we should start clemens in DE, the guy had 8 sacks with out starting a single game. burgess had the same amount and he started 14 games. but if not richardson or kelly are both good fits... we have two great LBs, now we need another one instead of williams, i know thomas started but he is not fast enough. i was thinking of karlos dansby, but they franchise tagged him already. therefor, we should go after calvin pace, cause he is young still and i think he could be great, but he would be even better if we get a better lb coach... i tought stanford routt was turning into a great CB but i was wrong. he started off great but at the end he was no better than washington. i say we bring adam jones. i know he is too risky, but after all this crap he is been trough, i dont think he will go back to his old habits. and besides we have always had great lucks with people like him, but if not him, then somebody else. i dont know anyone else thats gonna be a FA thats a good CB. Samuel is too expansive and trufant will sign back with his team. trust me! and now SS. since huff is moved to FS we need to find someone that can fill up that hole, and for this postion im thinking of drafting one in the 3rd or 4th round and turn him inot a great saefty. and please draft a hard hitting safety this time, instead of wusses like huff and shweigert. hey maybe we could trade shweigert for a 3rd he is worth that high.
with that in mind, im think one more yr and we r back on top. unless davis turns into a peice shit and fires kiffin then we gonna have to start all over again, and wait for another 3-4 yrs, and then again and again. i dont think i would be able to talk it anymore.
